NFL facing new PR disaster over Colin Kaepernick protest

Colin Kaepernick, well known San Fransisco football player is yet again in the spotlight but this time for a different reason. As the NFL has been working on enhancing their image Kaepernick decided to take it upon himself to stand for a cause and bring “politics” into football, (what many atheletes try to avoid). Kaepernick has decided to kneel during the playing of the national anthem to make a stance for the black shootings that have happened. Not only does this affect his reputation, and the NFL but also the sponsorships the NFL has with other organizations such as Anheuser-Busch, Gatorade, and Visa. These companies don’t want or like players popping off about politics. Personally, I do not agree with Kaepernick and do think this was partially a PR scheme. The flag, that many people have sacrificed their lives for should never have people kneeling down to it.

I am taking your side and do not agree with Kaepernicks action. The flag symbolizes a lot more than a persons freedom of speech. Using the flag as a platform to protest social injustices is not the right way to go about it. He can advocate on his own time but should not do it while wearing his uniform because he is a representation of the NFL.

I would have to disagree with the statement that this is a PR stunt. Although Kaepernick isn’t doing as well as of late, he still has the platform to send a message in a peaceful way. Since there have been a large amount of occurrences regarding police brutality and inequality, he used that platform to protest in a peaceful way that isn’t harmful to anybody. In light of the aggressive protests and riots following the killings of unarmed african americans, I think his way is justified and correct.
