Good hair, don’t care: Why Rachel Roy probably cares now

Over this past weekend, Beyonce released her visual album titled “Lemonade”. This album has been one of the most talked about events other than the passing of artist Prince. Beyonce made strategic PR decisions that have caused some of the commotion with her album release. This album tells her story from the struggle of being a black woman in society to Jay-Z’s affair.

In Beyonce’s first single “Sorry”, there is a lyric that says, “He better call Becky with the good hair”. Rachel Roy revealed herself as Becky with an Instagram post.

“Roy’s Instagram post likely undercut Beyonce’s carefully planned PR strategy to use the song, “Sorry,” to create a level of mainstream awareness for the album, French added (Bradley).”

The controversy of who Becky is will most likely continue for years to come. If Roy admits to having an affair with Jay-Z then her fashion company will lose all it’s consumers.

“”It is very possible she backtracked on the Instagram post because she realized it may not be a good look for her,” said French. “She is a celebrity designer to stars like Beyonce, and if they feel like she as a designer does not have their backs, it is true other celebrities might choose not to wear her clothes on the red carpet (Bradley).”

Overall, celebrities must be extremely careful of the PR decisions that are being made because their reputation can be ruined in a minute. Roy should never have posted this Instagram because then she most likely wouldn’t have gotten nearly half of the negative attention.

I feel l celebs don’t pay too much attention to the PR fallout that comes with most of their decision-making. Hence, the countless scandals that you hear about. In this case, Rachel Roy should have not revealed who “Becky” was via instagram.

I found this post quite interesting as I have heard so much fallout come from it. I think this was most defiantly a PR scheme done by Beyonce’s team, and I think it succeeded every well. It had people googling, tweeting, and analyzing her lyrics to her album. It created a large audience and much noise. Regardless of what side people are on it is still creating a discussion. IT also could have been a PR stunt for Rachel Roy as well, people who did not know of her are going to go to her Instagram account to see who Beyonce is being “cheated” on with (I have to say I did this myself). At the end of the day, all 3 of them are in the spotlight.

I agree with you she should not have revealed who becky was. And yes I agree with what you said that, “celebrities must be extremely careful of the PR decisions that are being made because their reputation can be ruined in a minute”. This statement is true and they have to think of this when putting themselves out there with their fans or the general public.
